Cossacks slay Blue Dragons in finale

VOLGA – McKade Rentsch and Jaxton Schiller had big games as Sioux Valley concluded the regular season with a 50-0 shellacking of Garretson on Friday night.

Rentsch ran 12 times for 148 yards and four touchdowns.

Schiller picked up 70 yards on eight rushes and 40 yards on a pair of receptions while finding the end zone twice. He returned a punt 87 yards to paydirt to open the scoring in the second stanza.

Parker Puetz was 6-of-10 for 130 yards with two TDs through the air.

Rentsch’s first touchdown was a 3-yard run. Schiller ran in the two-point conversion.

Puetz hit Damian Danziesen for a 35-yard score at the 3:15 mark of the first and Raven Olson added the two-pointer to make it 22-0.

A 21-yard Puetz-Schiller connection and Danziesen’s two-point run pushed the margin to 30-0. Rentsch scored on a 3-yard run 10.8 seconds before halftime to make it 36-0.

Rentsch had TD runs of 11 yards (4:12 third) and 58 yards (7:45 fourth) to end the game via the mercy rule.

Sioux Valley improved to 5-3.

The Cossacks outgained the Blue Dragons 399-131 in total yards of offense, including 269-62 on the ground.

Sioux Valley’s Lane VanderWal had three catches covering 55 yards.

Puetz and Carson Christopherson paced a balanced defensive effort with five tackles apiece and Danziesen added four.

For Garretson (3-5), which lost a pair of fumbles, Dominic Abraham ran for 43 yards. Dylan Kindt was 2-of-10 for 67 yards, with both completions going to Cole Skadsen.

Jacob Schroeder made nine tackles and Abraham and Evan Bly both added six.

The Class 11B Playoffs begin Thursday.

 Elk Point-Jefferson 35, Flandreau 12

FLANDREAU – The Huskies (4-4) totaled 412 yards of offense to beat the Fliers.

Brody Weavill amassed 129 yards on 13 rushes and found paydirt three times. Skylar Swatek added 63 yards on nine attempts.

Flandreau’s Matt Pauley totaled 179 yards on 34 carries.

Tanner Sundermeyer was 4-of-18 for 105 yards with two TDs through the air. Tayson Alberts had two catches for 55 yards and a score.

Matt Pauley recorded 19 tackles, Tash Lunday 11 and Chase Reed 10.

The Fliers had 284 yards of offense.

Flandreau finished the year 0-8.
