Cossacks sweep Beresford; Dolphins win

BERESFORD – Trevor Hanson posted a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds as Sioux Valley (3-1, 3-0) defeated Beresford 72-34 in a Big East Conference boys’ basketball game Thursday night.

Max Nielson totaled 14 points, six assists and five steals. Trevor Olson notched 11 points, Ryan Schuster 10 and Jake Schneider six to go with 11 boards.

Tied at 11 after a quarter, the Cossacks moved ahead 31-21 at halftime and were up 54-24 through three.

For the Watchdogs (0-3, 0-2), Jonah Larson had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Sioux Valley (5-0, 3-0) beat Beresford (1-3, 0-2) 66-50 in the girls’ game.

 Deubrook Area 61, Florence/Henry 52

TORONTO – Cody Bauman scored 23 points and the Dolphins used a fast start to pick up the nonconference win.

Deubrook (3-2) led 18-8 after 8 minutes. The Dolphins were up 31-21 at the break and 43-34 heading to the fourth.

Jack Bandemer added 14 points, Brock Sheffield nine and Clayton Koppatschek eight. Sheffield also grabbed 10 rebounds. Koppatschek added six boards, four steals and three assists.

For the Falcons (3-2), Trajan Schmidt dropped in 22 points and Mason Schroeder contributed 12.

 Castlewood 53, Arlington 43, OT

Caleb DeKam (23) and Brandon Benike (20) combined for 43 points as the Warriors rallied to post the Dakota Valley Conference victory.

Arlington (3-1, 3-1) led 15-9 after a quarter, 25-18 at halftime and 31-30 through three. The score was tied at 39-all at the end of regulation, before Castlewood (3-1, 3-0) prevailed in the extra session.

The Cardinals got 13 points from Devon Heuer and 10 by Will Parry.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

 Waverly-South Shore 68, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 7

WAVERLY – The Coyotes (4-0) led 31-0 after a quarter, 50-4 at halftime and 64-4 through three in the nonconference matchup.

Ali Kranz (26) and Kylie Carpenter (20) combined for 46 points.

For the Raiders (0-6), Jenessa Schiernbeck had three points, and Khloe Tieman and Emily Nold both added two.
