VOLGA – The Sioux Valley volleyball team continued its dominance of the Lake Central Conference with a sweep of Hamlin on Tuesday night.

The Cossacks won by the set scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-8 in a match that lasted 54 minutes.

“I thought we came out a little bit timid in the first set and we were thinking more about playing defense than we were about offense,” said Sioux Valley coach Jill Vincent. “But once we got started on a roll and figured out where some holes were, then our confidence grew from there.”

Sioux Valley has now won eight consecutive LCC titles, posting a record of 49-1 during that stretch.

“I think it’s exciting for the girls,” Vincent said of the championship. “It’s one of those goal-oriented things and they were really focused on it. It kind of puts a little extra pressure on you to prepare yourself for the match and get up for it. So it feels pretty good.”

The Cossacks have won 14 matches in a row overall to move their record to 18-3 (6-0).

It marked the first LCC loss of the season for the Chargers (15-8, 4-1).

Lynsey Stevens and Nikole Ziegler paced Sioux Valley with 16 kills apiece. Stevens also had 15 digs, while Ziegler notched 13 to go with three service aces.

Bryn Tvedt tallied eight kills and seven digs. Miakken Vincent recorded three blocks, two aces and eight digs.

Rachel Miller guided the offense with 41 set assists.

Hamlin’s Lexi Wadsworth finished with six kills and a pair of blocks. Faith Leiseth contributed five kills and 21 digs. Logan Keszler dished out 12 set assists.

Hamlin is host to Tiospa Zina on Thursday.

Sioux Valley faces Deubrook Area in the Chester Challenge on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Note: Sioux Valley’s lone LCC loss the past eight years came against Hamlin in 2013. The teams ended up being co-champions.
