Cossacks take 3rd, Fliers 7th at Big East Conference Tournament

CHESTER – Chester Area defeated Parker, 3-2, to win the Big East Conference Tournament while Sioux Valley downed McCook Central/ Montrose, 3-2, to place third.

Baltic took fifth with a 3-1 win over Howard as Flandreau captured seventh with a 3-1 win over Garretson.


Third Place

• Sioux Valley 3, MCM 2

The Cossacks won the first and third sets – 25-19 and 25-14 – and the Fighting Cougars won Sets 2 and 4 – 25-17 and 26-24 – before Sioux Valley closed the match with a 15-8 win in the fifth set to earn third place.

Nikole Ziegler led Sioux Valley with 20 kills and 18 digs while Lynsey Stevens had 12 kills and four blocks.

Rachel Miller totaled 41 set assists as Miakken Vincent added five aces, 3 1/2 blocks and 11 digs.

Bethany Rennich collected 4 1/2 blocks and Bryn Tvedt notched 14 digs.

The Cossacks, 5-3 on the season, play host to De Smet on Tuesday.


Seventh Place

• Flandreau 3, Garretson 1

The Fliers dropped the first set, 25-19, but then won three straight – 25-16, 25-22 and 25-10 – to take seventh.

Brooke Iott’s six kills led the offense for Flandreau as Mara Lunday and Marianna Pavlis each had five. Lunday finished with seven blocks and Pavlis had five as Anna Gassman led the defense with 18 digs.

Jaycie Pulscher finished with 20 set assists to go along with four ace serves while Rylee Iott chipped in with three aces.

The two teams square off on Tuesday in Garretson.



• Chester Area 3, Parker 2

Parker won the first two sets – 25-18 and 25-14 – before the Flyers rallied to win the final three sets – 25-21, 25-17 and 15-9 – to capture the BEC title.

Jadon Wages finished with 30 kills, 28 digs and a pair of blocks to lead Chester Area, 6-0.

Hailey Ewoldt notched 49 set assists while Hanna Reiff collected 39 digs.

Hannah Viet’s 19 kills and six blocks led the Pheasants. 4-2, at the net as Hannah Even had 44 set assists and Karley Peters finished with 27 digs.



• Baltic 3, Howard 1

The Lady Bulldogs won the first two sets – 25-22 and 25-19 – before Howard forced extra play with a 25-20 win in the third set. But Baltic escaped with a 25-23 win in Set 4 to place fifth.

Carrington Entringer had 16 kills and 17 digs as Brooke Van Dam (26) and Shelby Dosch (20) combined for 46 set assists.

Lexus Gorospe led the defense with 22 digs.

Citori Rentz’ 12 kills led the Tigers’ offense as Kiara Glanzer finished with 15 set assists.

Cailey Hinker notched 20 digs and five ace serves.
