Cougars sweep Dolphins in Class B consolation semifinal

RAPID CITY – Burke/South Central dropped Deubrook Area 25-17, 25-12, 25-19 in a consolation semifinal during the Class B State Volleyball Tournament on Friday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The Dolphins (25-9) face Faith (21-13) in the seventh-place match today at 10 a.m., while the Cougars (29-6) take on Hanson (28-3) for fifth at 11:45 a.m.

Taylee Indahl led BSC with 15 kills, two service aces, a solo block and 18 digs.

Tressa Bull added 11 kills and 1 1/2 blocks.

Bobbi Jo Wischmann dished out 27 set assists and came up with 15 digs. Lahna Matucha chipped in with seven kills and 18 digs.

For Deubrook, Shaylee DeBeer ended up with seven kills, a block assist, six set assists and 11 digs.

Ashley Vandermeer totaled five kills, an ace, a solo block and 10 digs.

Cortney Bauman notched 17 digs, Tori Berndt 13 and Courtni Frank 10. Sarah Urevig had two kills, four set assists and seven digs.

 Hanson 3, Faith 1

The Beaverettes won 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-18.

Jada Campbell recorded 10 kills and 3 1/2 blocks (three solo), while Brookelyn Slaba had 10 kills, an ace, a solo block and 12 digs.

Heather Kayser added five kills, 28 set assists, an ace and 10 digs. Tessa Zens led six players in double figures with 15 digs.

For the Longhorns, Mikenzy Miller had 13 kills, an ace and a block assist. Jayden Shoemaker tallied nine kills, an ace, a block assist and 16 digs. Sydnie Schauer had 29 set assists and 14 digs, while Brooklyn Hanson contributed 23 digs.

Semifinals

Top-seeded and defending-champion Northwestern (34-1) and Warner (30-4) picked up semifinal wins. The championship match begins at 5 this evening.

 Northwestern 3, Herreid/Selby Area 0

The Monarchs cruised into the final with a 25-12, 25-9, 25-16 triumph.

Riley Grandpre had 15 kills and 1 1/2 blocks. Evy Peterson added 12 kills and Caitlyn Fischbach had 10 to go with a block assist.

Madalyn Groft guided the offense with 38 set assists while adding five kills, 1 1/2 blocks, an ace and seven digs. Addison Sparling had 11 digs.

For the Wolverines (30-3), Charlie Tisall totaled five kills and Rachel Fiedler four to go with a solo block and eight digs.

 Warner 3, Chester Area 1

The Monarchs shook off a slow start for a 21-25, 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 defeat of the Flyers (36-5). Peyton Ellingson led four Monarchs in double figures with 26 kills. Chester’s Jadon Wages and Dakota Alfson both had 14 kills.
