Final council vote on city’s 2018 spending plan to come at September meeting

BROOKINGS – The agenda for the Brookings City Council meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday is concise: there’s just one item, the 2018 budget.

The attached 2018 Proposed Budget Summary provides the budgets for each fund, according to an attachment to the agenda, which is available on the city’s website.

It begins with the General Fund, which is broken down into each department and followed by the fund total, then continues on with the special revenue, debt service, capital project and enterprise funds. As requested by the council, the spreadsheet is presented in summary form rather than in line-item detail.

“This budget remains a work-in-progress needing input from the Council,” according to the attachment.

There will be time to review the 2018 proposed budget, answer questions and have discussion.

The next budget workshop is scheduled for the council meeting on July 25. The first reading of the budget ordinance is scheduled for Aug. 22, with the second reading and final adoption on Sept. 12.
