County OKs $31M budget

BROOKINGS – Brookings County commissioners approved the final $31 million budget for 2019 at their Tuesday meeting.

Few changes were made from the provisional budget presented at the last county commission meeting. The most notable changes that were made reflect the replacing of placeholder numbers for such things as insurance rates with the actual amounts that have since come in to the county.

The plugging in of insurance numbers has resulted in $68,000 in savings in the general fund when compared to the provisional budget. It also saved the road and bridge fund nearly $6,800.

It was also pointed out by Brookings County Finance Officer Vicki Buseth that the total county levy decreased slightly, going from $4.156 per $1,000 in property valuation to $4.149.

This budget allocates $13.8 million to the general fund, $7.97 million to the road and bridge fund, $1.05 million to the county building fund and $7.4 million to the jail expansion project.
