Crafts, more pizza in Brookings

Little Caesars, Joann open for business this week

BROOKINGS – Two new businesses opened their doors in Brookings this week.

Pizza chain Little Caesars opened at 2508 Wilbert Court with a soft opening Wednesday, although there seemed to be little letup in customers coming through the doors.

And crafty retailer Joann opened its newest store in the University Mall at 930 22nd Ave. S. today with a morning ribbon cutting. The Joann grand-opening celebration continues through Saturday, with doors opening at 9 a.m. each day.

Little Caesars will be open seven days a week. Its winter hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, although those times are flexible and may be adjusted to coincide with customer traffic and demand, area manager Kaitlin Goike said.

The restaurant, known for its “hot-n-ready” pizzas, offers pick-up orders that can be placed directly at the store, or through its app or online to pick-up inside the store or at its drive-up window.

Goike said the store can take custom orders with any of its available toppings, but its hot-n-ready pizzas will be available when customers walk in. Pizzas are made with fresh ingredients within the half-hour of being purchased, and anything older than that is tossed.

The Little Caesars menu also includes bread sticks, chicken wings, dips and soda.

Joann officials say their store is a one-stop destination for creativity, with an array of fabrics, craft supplies, finished home goods, food crafting, seasonal merchandise and more.

The three-day grand opening celebration will offer special savings, giveaways and hands-on activities for Brookings residents, in addition to a $1,500 grant to Medary Elementary School.

Part of the Joann Inspired to Help program, the grant will fund an educational project of the school’s choosing.

“We’re thrilled to join the Brookings community and help shoppers channel their creativity through inspiration, guidance and quality products,” said Jill Soltau, president & CEO of Joann. “As always, our customers can count on finding high-quality fabrics, new product lines, and the latest craft trends in our stores.”

On Saturday, kids can enjoy a craft activity and balloon artist from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and teachers get 15 percent off their entire purchase with valid ID.

“As a proud part of the local business community, Joann is pleased to contribute to the future of Brookings’ creative pursuits,” said Soltau. “We look forward to continuing that support throughout the year and to inspiring creativity in local residents for years to come.”
