BROOKINGS – The Helpline Center recently announced that Penny Crapser was named the October 2018 Volunteer of the Month, an area-wide award program sponsored by the Helpline Center.

There to honor and thank Crapser were Amber Lounsbery, member support specialist at Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons; Sarah Lippert, volunteer connections coordinator at Helpline Center; and numerous Girl Scout-Dakota Horizon members and families.

Crapser is an excellent volunteer with Girl Scouts in Brookings. She takes on many more roles than most to see the girls succeed. In just the last year alone, she served as troop co-leader for two troops, area cookie sale coordinator, camp director and events volunteer. That is a lot to ask of one person, and she does all this with a smile on her face.

With more than 16 years of Girl Scout volunteer service, Crapser continues provides high quality service to our volunteers and girls. The hours dedicated to volunteering with Girl Scouts varies each month, but on average she spends 10-15 hours planning and implementing activities with the girls. In busier seasons, such as during camp or cookie season, Crapser  spends many more hours volunteering.

Crapser’s leadership and volunteer service has helped to create a cohesive group of girls and volunteers in Brookings who are making the world a better place. In addition to running two very active Girl Scout troops, Crapser  has gone above and beyond in providing additional events and camp experiences for the girls in the Brookings area. She also shares her extensive Girl Scout knowledge and experience and serves as a mentor for her fellow Girl Scout volunteers.

Crapser  always has a positive attitude and helps out whenever needed. One of the most amazing things about Crapser is that she does all this, and doesn’t even have a daughter in Girl Scouts! She has a passion for this organization that started as a girl and continues to shine brightly into adulthood.
