Cubs beat Aurora A’s 11-1

BROOKINGS – The Cubs beat the Aurora A’s 11-1 in seven innings in an amateur baseball game Friday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Kyle Krogman went 4-for-4 to lead Brookings’ 17-hit attack. He doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice.

Sam McMacken had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Ty Schneider (RBI), Tanner Swets and Austin Koenig (double) added a pair of hits apiece.

Todd Standish drove in two runs. Seth Fraser doubled. Jared Tschetter scored three runs.

The A’s struck first on Ryen Zerfas’ RBI single in the opening inning. The Cubs answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, four in the second, and two in both the third and fifth.

Carter Gordon earned the win on the hill, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four innings.

Tschetter tossed a scoreless fifth, and Fraser closed it out with two scoreless innings of work with four strikeouts.

Aurora’s Parker Todd went 4-for-4.

Colton Wendland took the loss after giving up 11 runs – six earned – on 15 hits with two strikeouts and a walk in five in- nings. Zerfas tossed a scoreless sixth, striking out two.

Brookings (12-5) plays host to the Valley Springs Rats in a Sioux Empire League game Sunday at 7 p.m.
