BROOKINGS – Jeff Fish totaled five RBIs and Jared Tschetter added four as the Cubs beat the Sioux Falls Saints 29-19 in eight innings in their Sioux Empire League opener on Tuesday night at Bob Shelden Field.

Cubs beat Sioux Falls Saints 29-19

BROOKINGS – Jeff Fish totaled five RBIs and Jared Tschetter added four as the Cubs beat the Sioux Falls Saints 29-19 in eight innings in their Sioux Empire League opener on Tuesday night at Bob Shelden Field.

The game lasted more than 4 hours – ending at 11:34 p.m. – as the teams combined for 30 hits and 42 free passes, including 32 walks.

Brookings grabbed the lead for good – 22-19 – with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and added seven more in the eighth to end things “early.”

Fish finished 4-for-5 with a double and a walk. Tschetter was 2-for-3, including a two-run homer and a double, and walked twice.

Todd Standish scored five runs and Sam McMacken four.

Fish picked up the win in relief, retiring four of the five batters he faced, including two via strikeouts.

The Saints’ Brent Jarvis went 3-for-6 with eight RBIs. He hit a grand slam during his team’s nine-run fourth frame.

Brookings (10-2) plays host to the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels tonight at 7:30. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday.
