Cubs on a roll

RENNER/MILROY, Minn. – The Cubs posted a pair of victories over the weekend, dropping the Renner Bullets 13-2 in eight innings in Sioux Empire League action Sunday after beating the Irish 6-3 on Friday night in Milroy.

Brookings is 9-1 overall.

The Cubs are 2-0 in SEL games, 4-1 versus Minnesota clubs and 4-0 against Eastern Dakota League teams.

Brookings is scheduled to return to action July 21, playing host to Baltic at 7:30 p.m. in Aurora.


 Brookings 13, Renner Bullets 2 (8 inn.)

Jeff Fish (homer), Jared Tschetter (triple, double) and Sam McMacken (two doubles) each totaled two hits and three RBIs as the Cubs dominated the Bullets.

Youngster Tyler Kreutner went 3-for-5, as Brookings racked up 13 hits.

Fish’s three-run bomb in the second made it 5-0.

Jacolby Anderson gave up just one run – unearned – on one hit with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings.

Kyle Krogman tossed two scoreless innings after that, striking out three, walking three and giving up a hit. He had an RBI double in his lone at-bat and later scored.

Joey Texley turned in another quality start on the mound and Sam McMacken and Jared Tschetter went yard as the Cubs logged the non-league victory over the Minnesota club.

The right-hander went eight innings, allowing three runs – two earned – on six hits with six punchouts and zero free passes.

Texley leads the team in wins – he’s 3-1 – and innings pitched – 20 – in four appearances. He has 22 Ks and six walks while sporting a 4.05 ERA. He allowed just one earned run in four innings of work in his lone loss.

Marcus Heemstra tossed a scoreless ninth, surrendering just one hit.

Austin Koenig’s groundout in the third plated Tyler Kreutner, who reached on an error to knot the score at 1.

McMacken hammer an 0-1 pitch to center in the fourth. The two-run bomb, which plated Jeff Fish, made it 3-1.

Jake Anderson had a two-run double in the seventh and Tschetter hit a solo homer in the eighth.

McMacken, Tschetter and Anderson each logged two of the Cubs’ 10 hits.

The Irish’s Derek Riley was 3-for-4 with a two-bagger.
