Cubs’ rally comes up short in 5-4 loss to Brewers

SIOUX FALLS – Despite out-hitting the Brewers, the Brookings Cubs came up short in a 5-4 loss on Monday night.

Sioux Falls scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead before the Cubs answered with three in the seventh to make it close.

Brookings finished with 10 hits – four for extra bases – as Jeff Fish doubled twice and drove in two runs while Kyle Krogman and Sam McMacken added one apiece as McMacken went 4-for-4 at the dish.

Curt Anderson suffered the loss after giving up five runs – four earned – on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings of work.

Fish threw the last 2 1/3, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Brookings, 15-3 on the season, travels to Renner on Thursday, July 6, to face the Monarchs in a 7:30 p.m. game. The Cubs take on the Saints in Sioux Falls on July 9.
