Cubs rally past Vermillion, 10-6

BROOKINGS – The Cubs ran their record to 18-3 with a 10-6 win over Vermillion on Sunday at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings plays host to the Castlewood Ravens in an 8 p.m. contest tonight at Shelden and will also hold its Fan Appreciation Night, as well.

The Cubs scored four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to finally pull away from Vermillion as Brookings pounded out 16 hits as Austin Koenig accounted for three of them, including a double, to go along with an RBI.

Jeff Fish singled, doubled and drove in two runs while Sam McMacken had a pair of hits and two RBIs. Skyler Cary and Ty Schneider each had two hits and a run batted in as Jared Tschetter added two hits.

Kenneth Negron and Jacob Meyer chipped in with a hit and RBI apiece.

Sam Froehlich picked up the win in relief – getting two outs in the seventh – as he walked one and struck out one.

Carlos Rodriguez gave up six runs – four earned – on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts over the first 6 1/3 before Froehlich came on. Mike Holen tossed the eight and struck out one, while Kenneth Negron struck out one in a scoreless ninth.
