SIOUX FALLS – The Cubs drilled the Sioux Falls Saints 17-4 in seven innings during Sioux Empire League amateur baseball action Thursday night at Harmodon.
JaColby Anderson was 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
Sam McMacken tripled, doubled and drove in three runs.
Ty Schneider doubled twice and had a pair of RBIs while scoring four times. Jared Tschetter also scored four runs.
Curt Anderson pitched five innings to pick up the win on the mound, giving up four runs – none earned – on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Caleb Stratmoen retired six of the seven batters he faced, including three by strikeout.
The Saints’ Kevin Corcoran was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jake Barema allowed 11 runs – four earned – on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.
The Cubs beat the Saints 29-19 in eight innings in the first meeting this season on June 19 in Brookings during a game that lasted more than 4 hours and saw the teams combine for 30 hits and 42 free passes (32 walks).
Brookings (11-5, 2-3) plays host to Aurora tonight at 7:30 at Bob Shelden Field.
