Cyclones go 3-0 at MCM Quad; Fliers win one dual

SALEM – Clark/Willow Lake posted a 3-0 mark to win the McCook Central/Montrose quadrangular on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones beat the host Fighting Cougars, 39-33, along with wins over Flandreau (54-21) and Sioux Valley (58-0). MCM went 2-1 after downing the Fliers, 60-18, and the Cossacks, 78-6.
Flandreau finished 1-2 with a 54-9 win over Sioux Valley as the Cossacks finished 0-3.

On Saturday, the Cossacks hold their own Invitational in Volga with competition starting at 10 a.m. while Flandreau travels to Madison for an Invitational that begins at 9 a.m.

 Clark/Willow Lake 54, Flandreau 21

Michael Witte won a 6-0 decision over Zach Mulder at 145 pounds while Tanner Christenson (120), Brendan Ten Eyck (152) and Preston Keith (160) all won by forfeit.

At 132 pounds, CWL’s Gage Burke won by fall in 1:57 over Tathan Headrick; Josh Weisbrod pinned Austin Kulm in 1:16 at 138; and Wyatt Burke won by fall in 1:49 over Chase Reed at 220.

The Cyclones won by forfeit in six weights with one weight open for both teams.

 McCook Central/Montrose 60, Flandreau 18

The Fliers took an early lead before MCM rallied for the dual win.

After a double forfeit at 106, Hunter Witte needed just 21 seconds to pin Reid Montreal at 113.

Christenson followed with a 48-second win by fall over Lane Huls at 120, but the Fighting Cougars scored the next 18 points to take the lead – a forfeit at 126, followed by two pins – Tate Reiner in 49 seconds over Headrick at 132 and Jacobi Krouse in 52 seconds over Kulm at 138.

Michael Witte tied the team score at 18-18 with a 23-second pin of Cade Entwisle at 145, but MCM took the lead for good with three wins by fall and four forfeits over the final seven weight classes.

At 152, Paul Lauck won by fall in 1:23 over Ten Eyck before Parker Scheier pinned Keith in 2:41 at 160.

Colin Rief capped off the wrestling with a 50-second pin of Reed at 220.

 Clark/Willow Lake 58, Sioux Valley 0

At 106, CWL’s Gunnar Kvistad won by a 10-1 major decision over David Knutson in the only match wrestled. The Cyclones picked up nine forfeits as four weight classes were open.

 Flandreau 54, Sioux Valley 9

Knutson won by forfeit at 106 pounds and Caleb Elijah won an 11-6 decision over Kulm at 138 pounds to account for the Cossacks’ scoring.

Flandreau’s Michael Witte won by fall in 33 seconds over Joe Hornick at 145 pounds in the only other match that was wrestled as the Flyers garnered eight forfeit wins, with three open weight classes.

 McCook Central/Montrose 78, Sioux Valley 6

Knutson picked up another forfeit at 106 for Sioux Valley’s only points.

At 138, Krouse won by fall over Elijah and Entwisle did the same at 145 over Hornick in the only matches wrestled as the Fighting Cougars won 11 matches by forfeit.
