Dale M. “Joker” Stuefen, 91, of Elkton, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Riverview Healthcare Community, Flandreau under hospice care. 

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Parish of Elkton with burial following in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Elkton. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Elkton.

Dale Martin was born Oct. 26, 1926, in Verdi, Minnesota, the son of Willie and Daisy (Johnson) Stuefen. He attended school through the eighth grade. 

He married Kathleen Fogerty on April 29, 1950, in Brookings. They had six children: William, Paula, Dan, Doug, Tom and Scott. The family resided in Elkton. Joker, a nickname he got while a youngster, worked for the Rock Island Railroad company, as a lineman, until an injury forced him to retire. He also did some farming north of Elkton and ran a gravel hauling business for several years. Joker liked playing many different card games including poker at the casinos. He enjoyed his trips to the casinos, meeting many people and carrying on a conversation with them. He also enjoyed having coffee uptown.

Joker is survived by his children, William (Lois) Stuefen of Elkton, Dan (June) Stuefen of Hendricks, Minnesota, Doug Stuefen of Volga, Tom Stuefen and Scott (Berniece) Stuefen both of Elkton; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin (Nancy) Stuefen of Tyler, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Jane (Delbert) Hunt of Red Oak, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. 

Joker was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Paula Wiskur; grandson, Travis Stuefen; and sister, Avis Koerner.
