Dale Harold Remund, 88, formerly of Wilmot, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at Edgewood Vista in Brookings.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Wilmot Lutheran Church with the Rev. Sheila Pohl officiating. Burial was in the Wilmot Lutheran Cemetery.

Military honors were presented by American Legion, Drake-Sorbel Post No. 64.

Dale was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Milbank to Clarence and Ada Remund. After completing eighth grade at the country school in Lake Township, he began his life-long farming career with his father.

Dale married Anita Christianson of Wilmot on Sept. 30, 1951. Two months later he left for Army basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, and was subsequently stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in November 1953.  Dale resumed his farming career and operated a successful partnership with his brother Norman “Bud” Remund for more than 40 years.  After retiring from full-time farming, he continued to help his brother, nephews and son-in-law with farm work for many years.

Dale was a quiet, hard-working man who devoted his life to caring and providing for his wife and five children.  He loved his family immensely.  He cherished his 15 grandchildren and would proudly proclaim, “there’s not a dud in the bunch!”

Dale is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anita; his children: Dan (Robin) Remund of Larkspur, Colorado, Nancy (Jerry) Brown of Fairbanks, Alaska, Heidi (Dennis) Sweeney of Wilmot, Lori Oey of Sioux Falls, and Connie (Dennis) Harstad of Brookings; sister, Merlys Lewis of Shakopee, Minnesota; brother, Norman “Bud”  Remund of Wilmot; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Remund of Spokane, Washinton and son-in-law, Dr. David Oey of Sioux Falls.
