Darlene H. Midtaune, 86, of Hendricks, Minn., died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Hendricks Nursing Home.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks with the Rev. Denise Fossen officiating. Burial is in the Hendricks City Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 - 6 p.m. with a rrayer service at 6 p.m. at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel, Hendricks, Minn., and will resume Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Darlene Henrietta Laabs, daughter of Birthult and Zadie (Smith) Laabs, was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Richland Township, Brookings County. She was raised on a farm and attended Richland District No. 48 School. She attended Hendricks High School and graduated in 1948. She resided at the Hendricks Nurses Home in Hendricks, Minn., where she achieved her LPN nursing degree from Hendricks Hospital.
Darlene married Glen Midtaune, on March 1, 1950, in Hennepin County, Minn. They resided in Hendricks where Darlene worked at the Hendricks Hospital and retirement home for 35-plus years. She became a resident of the Hendricks Nursing Home on Jan. 22, 2014, where Glen later joined her. Glen died Dec. 23, 2016.
Darlene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past member of the Hendricks Hospital Auxiliary, Christ Lutheran WELCA and Sons of Norway. She enjoyed cooking Norwegian foods for family and friends, visiting with family and friends and collecting coins. Her greatest times were talking to and about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived her four children, Mike (Marcy) Midtaune of Sioux Falls, Lynette (Dan) Anderson of Hendricks, Minn., Craig (Patty) Midtaune of Hendricks, Minn., and Dan (Da Lana) Midtaune of Hendricks, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Christianson of Brookings; brother, Darold (Helen) Laabs of Luverne, Minn.; sister-in-law, Collen Enga of Luverne, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; brothers: Marlo, DuWayne and Donald Labbs; sister, Elsie Laabs; one infant grandson and three nephews: Terry, Jimmy and Doyle Christianson.
