Darlene Marie Schwartz, of Brookings, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the age of 82 years, at South Haven Living Center, in Wahoo, NE.

 Darlene Marie Miller was born on August 2, 1937, in Brookings, SD, to William and Vada (Bulen) Miller, of Aurora, SD. Darlene graduated from Brookings High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Robert C. Schwartz, on June 5, 1955. Robert and Darlene lived near Oakwood Lakes, in rural Bruce, SD, where they farmed until 1977.

 Of this marriage, 5 children were born- Randall Schwartz of Wahoo, NE, Rickie Schwartz of Brookings, SD, Charlene Rohl of Lincoln, NE, Roy Dean Schwartz of Herreid, SD and Rhon Schwartz of Alpine, CA.

 Darlene was an active member of Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce. Darlene was very active in their farming operation from 1955 to 1977. She also was active in school PTA’s, Booster Clubs, and other various groups for their children. Darlene was also an avid horse lover.

 After selling the family farm in 1977, Darlene and Robert built a home on East Oakwood Lake. They moved to Brookings SD in 1987. Robert and Darlene worked many different jobs during their retirement years. Darlene lost the love of her life in January 2011 to ALS. She solely cared for Robert during his 5 year illness. After his passing, Darlene moved to Stoney Brook Assisted Living until 2017 when she moved into the South Haven Living Center in Wahoo, NE.

Darlene is survived by her children, Randall and Bonnie (Johnson) Schwartz of Wahoo, NE, Rickie and Conie (Stokes) Schwartz of Brookings, SD, Charlene (Schwartz) and Ryan Rohl of Lincoln, NE, Roy Dean and Danette (Horst) Schwartz of Herreid, SD, and Rhon and Deborah (Ciesielski) Schwartz of Alpine, CA; sister-in-law, Mavis Miller of Lakeside, CA; brother-in-law, Ralph Schwartz of Estelline, SD; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; mother, Vada; father William ‘Bill’; two brothers, Darrell Miller and Dean Miller and a baby sister, Donna Mae Miller.

 Memorial donations in memory of Darlene Schwartz can be made to Grace Free Lutheran Church, in Bruce, SD.

 Private family memorial services will be held at 10 a.m July 18, 2020 at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce. A livestreaming of the service may be watched at https://www.facebook.com/GFLCBruce/. Services will be able to be heard on the radio in the church parking lot on the radio by tuning to 89.3 FM. A public graveside service will be held following the service at 11:10 am at Trinity Cemetery in Volga. A drive by visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
