Daryle Elston Dawson, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, in Spearfish.   

He was born at Worthingon Minn., on May 8, 1934, to Clare and Martha (Kuiper) Dawson.   He attended country school near Rushmore, Minn., and graduated from Worthington High School in 1952.  He was an airborne radar operator during his service in the Navy. 

He majored in animal science at the University of Minnesota and South Dakota State University.  Daryle married Genevieve Post on June 6, 1964, in Worthington.

 Daryle was actively engaged in agriculture and strived for excellence in every endeavor. He held state officer positions in both FFA and 4-H. He farmed at Rushmore, Minn., and was a member and leader of several farm organizations. He was passionate about breeding and showing quality livestock. He raised purebred Charolais cattle and held annual production sales. His 1989, he and Gen further pursued their agricultural interests by starting a successful crop insurance agency in Brookings.  

 By God’s grace, Daryle accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. He relied on Christ’s guidance and comfort throughout his life.  He served as an elder, deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, and youth group leader. 

 He enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his family and friends, and was a strong supporter of his children and grandchildren in their activities. He had a very engaging personality and sense of humor, and had a caring heart for people’s needs. 

In 1997, Multiple Sclerosis took him on a journey of obstacles and challenges. His determination, optimism, humor, and faith were an inspiration to all who knew him. He is now in complete peace and joy glorifying Christ in heaven.

In 2008, Daryle and Gen moved to Spearfish to be closer to family.

Daryle is survived by his wife, Gen, Spearfish; son Gary (SookHee) Gillette WY; daughters, Jodi (Jeff) Sleep and Marcie (Dan) Holben Spearfish; seven grandcildren, Sami (Carl) Anderson, Sydney and Carson Sleep, Stran and Shaylie Holben, Elijah and Grace Dawson.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are at  1 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Baptist Church in Spearfish with Pastor Gregg Dennison of Faith Bible Church officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.  Visitation with fellowship will be 10: a.m.  to 1 p.m. at the church.
