BROOKINGS – South Dakota State’s Mike Daum has filed paperwork with the National Basketball Association declaring for the 2018 draft. Daum, who will not hire an agent, announced his intentions Friday afternoon to explore the draft process without forgoing his remaining collegiate eligibility.

The senior-to-be, whose Twitter handle is @Dauminator24, posted this tweet at 3:07 p.m. Friday: “After speaking with my coaches and family I have decided to declare for the 2018 NBA Draft without an agent. I’m excited to pursue my dream and see where this process will take me! #Blessed #GoJacks”

Daum is a two-time Associated Press All-America honorable mention and Summit League Player of the Year. He led the Jackrabbits to their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and was one of three players nationally to average more than 20 points (23.9) and 10 rebounds (10.3) per contest this season.

He shot 46.2 percent from the field and buried a single-season school record 96 3-pointers in 2017-18, firing at 42.5 percent beyond the arc while going 194-for-228 at the charity stripe. His 836 points are the second most in a year at SDSU after he set the record last season with 878 points.

Daum ranks second in career scoring at SDSU with 2,232 points, just 131 shy of Nate Wolters’ school record, and is also second in career rebounds at 851 (record: 1,132).

In Summit League history, the 6-foot-9, 250-pound forward is eighth in points (record: 2,504) and rebounds (record: 1,189).

Daum has career averages of 21.46 points (second in SDSU history, third in Summit League) and 8.18 rebounds. He’s shot 50.1 percent (719-of-1,435) from the field, including 42.5 percent (204-of-480) from 3-point range, and 85.1 percent (590-of-693) at the foul line.

The Kimball, Neb., native has never missed a game in his collegiate career, appearing in all 104 over the past three seasons.

He is a three-time all-Summit League first-team selection and Summit League Championship MVP. He was the Summit League Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year in 2016.

Daum scored 27 points on 9-of-20 shooting, including a 5-of-10 clip from long range (4-of-6 free throws), and grabbed six rebounds in 37 minutes during the Jackrabbits’ 81-73 loss to Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 15 in Boise, Idaho.

Daum will be able to work out for NBA teams beginning April 24 and is eligible for the NBA Draft Combine on May 16-20 in Chicago, if selected. The combine list is released April 27. After the combine, he has until June 11 to decide whether to stay in the draft or withdraw.

The 2018 NBA Draft is set for June 21 at 7 p.m. from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
