David E. Wilaby, 59, of Aurora, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2018.  

Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.  Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.  

David E. Wilaby was born Jan. 18, 1959, in Volga, the youngest son of Duane M. and Darlene M. (Alexander) Wilaby.  He grew up and attended school in Brookings, graduating from Brookings High School in 1977.  

David began his life long career as an over the road truck driver, starting with Midwest Coast Trucking of Sioux Falls.  

Over the years he also drove for Zeitner Trucking of Omaha, Nebraska, where he also worked as a shop hand.  

He then moved to the Aurora area where he made his home and began operating his own truck, driving for Jensen Sweet Corn and Produce of Aurora.  He then became owning partner and truck driver for Mad Trucking of Aurora.

He enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, his restored Chevy pickup, and car racing where he was a pit crew member for Zeitner Racing.  Dave fully supported the Aurora community.  

He was a co-organizer of the Aurora Model Train Display, helped with the Aurora Gala Days summer celebrations, and co-built and stocked the Aurora Little Free Library.

David is survived by his father, Duane M. Wilaby of Brookings; a brother, Donald D. (Sarah) Wilaby of Englewood, Colorado and their children, Charles Wurzer of Philadelphia and Henry Wurzer of St. Charles, Missouri; a sister, Diane M. Wilaby of Rochester, Minnesota, and her children, Erin and Heather also of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene Wilaby.
