DCH tops Sioux Valley in playoff game

Noah Wiersma’s walkoff single with one out in the eighth lifted Deuel/Castlewood/Hamlin over Sioux Valley 8-7 in a Class B playoff game Monday.

The Cossacks scored three runs in the top of the seventh – Parker Puetz had an RBI single and Jake Goodfellow followed with a two-run hit – to knot the score at 7-all and force extra innings.

DCH’s Jackson Noem drew a walk to open the bottom of the eighth and stole second with one out. Cameron Thue was intentionally walked.

Wiersma came up next and grounded a single to right field to drive in Noem for the winning run.

The home team opened the scoring with two runs in the second. The teams later exchanged four-run innings – Sioux Valley in the third and DCH in the fifth – leaving the score at 6-4. DCH led 7-4 after six.

Wiersma, Mitchell Noem and Kyler Tvedt each drove in a pair of runs. Jackson Noem doubled, singled and scored three times.

Mitchell Noem earned the win after giving up three runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk of the final two innings.

DCH starter Kellan Benck gave up four runs – none of which were earned – on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks in the first six innings.

Dylan Milton led the Cossacks’ seven-hit attack with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. He and Puetz both scored twice. Damien Danziesen doubled.
