BROOKINGS – Sanne de Bruijn, a senior dairy student at South Dakota State University, has been awarded the inaugural Lon and Kathy Tonneson Scholarship in the amount of $500, by the Central Plains Dairy Foundation. De Bruijn, a native of Vicksburg, Michigan, will graduate in May with a double major in dairy production and dairy manufacturing.

Chris Maxwell, Central Plains Dairy Foundation executive director, said “We are extremely pleased to award the first Lon and Kathy Tonneson Scholarship to a student whose academic achievements and participation in the dairy industry are exemplary. Sanne de Bruijn began preparing herself for a leadership role in the dairy industry at a young age and has demonstrated her passion and commitment throughout her college career.”

The Lon and Kathy Tonneson Scholarship was founded by Tracey and Brian Erickson of Arlington, to honor Lon and Kathy Tonneson for their years of dedication to growing agriculture and the dairy industry.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who has successfully completed their first semester enrolled in a post-secondary college or university pursuing a degree in agriculture with emphasis in ag communication and/or leadership.
