De Smet tops Deubrook in Region 3B; Castlewood, Ethan, Hanson also advance to Round of 16

MADISON – De Smet dropped Deubrook 41-31 and Castlewood beat Hitchcock-Tulare 74-48 in the Region 3B Girls’ Basketball Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

De Smet tops Deubrook in Region 3B; Castlewood, Ethan, Hanson also advance to Round of 16

MADISON – De Smet dropped Deubrook 41-31 and Castlewood beat Hitchcock-Tulare 74-48 in the Region 3B Girls’ Basketball Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs (17-5) and Warriors (19-2) advanced to the Class B Round of 16, which is Thursday. Pairings and game sites will be determined this weekend.

 De Smet 41, Deubrook Area 31

The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Dolphins 12-6 in each of the first two quarters to build a 24-12 lead en route to the victory. They led 33-21 through three.

Gianna Janssen scored a game-high 15 points. She went 5-of-9 from the field and 5-for-7 at the free-throw line.

Kennadi Buchholz added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Autumn Wilkinson finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Kenzie Blue had nine boards and five assists. Rynn Osthus totaled four points, four rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

De Smet shot 35 percent (14-of-40) from the floor and limited Deubrook to 22 percent (9-of-41).

The Dolphins’ Shaylee DeBeer ended up with 11 points. Cassie Quail scored nine points before fouling out.

Cortney Bauman closed out her 1,000-point career with a seven-point performance.

Deubrook finished the season with a 16-6 record.

 Castlewood 74, Hitchcock-Tulare 48

MADISON – The Warriors jumped out to a 20-7 lead after the first eight minutes and cruised to a 74-48 win over Hitchcock-Tulare in the early game at Madison High School.

Castlewood extended its lead to 39-20 at halftime and 62-34 through three quarters to advance to the Round of 16.

Regan Benike posted a double-double with game highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five assists, five steals and two blocks. Alayna Benike added 19 points and four dimes while Abbey Strait chipped in with 14 points and Darah DeKam contributed 11 points, six boards, five assists and a pair of blocks.

Elizabeth Salmen’s 17 points, five boards, four steals and two assists led the Lady Patriots, who ended their season with a 13-9 mark. Tyler Schone finished with 13 points while Dawsyn Otto and Dannyn Peterson added eight and seven points, respectively.

REGION 4B

HURON – Ethan and Hanson punched their tickets to the Round of 16 with easy wins in Thursday’s Region 4B semifinals at the Huron Arena as the Rustlers downed Howard, 58-30, while the Beaverettes defeated Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, 61-32.

Ethan improved to 20-2 and Hansen moved to 19-3.

The Rustlers took control early with a 14-2 edge after one as they limited Howard to single-digit scoring in three quarters

Ethan was up 32-14 at halftime and pushed its lead to 43-21 through three as Karly Gustafson led all players with 19 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. Cameryn Logan had 14 points while Jessica Bartscher finished with eight markers and Maddie Miller chipped in with seven points and three takeaways.

Hilary Albrecht netted nine points while Citori Rentz added seven as the Tigers finished their season with a 13-9 mark.

 Hanson 61, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 32

The Beaverettes took it to SC/W by building a 31-9 halftime advantage en route to the victory.

Heather Kayser posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards in addition to grabbing three steals. Jada Campbell dropped in 12 points while Brooke Slaba and Brooke Weber finished with nine and eight points apiece.

Tesa Jensen scored nine points as Alissa Ball had eight as the Blackhawks ended their campaign with a 13-9 record.
