Deane “Bucky” Sagmoe, 76, of Hendricks, Minnesota, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in the Hendricks Hospital.  

Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks. Burial is in the Hendricks City Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church. The Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel, in Hendricks is entrusted with the arrangements.

Deane “Bucky” Sagmoe was born on Oct. 16, 1941, to Kenneth and Fern (Christensen) Sagmoe in Brookings County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was raised in the Hendricks area and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1959, where he was active in baseball, football, basketball and track. After working at the Hendricks Farmers Lumber Company, he enrolled in college at Mankato State, where he played baseball and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1965.  

Bucky married Beatta Olson on Sept. 14, 1968.  They had three daughters:  Heidi, Jodi and Melissa.  From 1965 to 1973, he taught Health and Physical Education in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  

He was elected Lincoln County Auditor in 1973, where he served for more than 25 years.  

After retiring, he then served two terms as county commissioner from 2000 to 2008.   

Bucky suffered from multiple heart problems since the age of 29.

Bucky enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and taking care of his lawns.

He is survived by his wife, Beatta Sagmoe of Hendricks, Minnesota; three daughters,  Heidi (Darren) Swenson and Jodi Sagmoe, both of Hendricks and Missy Sagmoe of Brookings; one grandson and one sister, Donna (Jerry) Kluess of Brookings.

Bucky was preceded in death by a brother, Duane “Pike” (Jean) Sagmoe.
