BROOKINGS – A delivery truck rolled north of Aurora Wednesday, injuring its driver and necessitating the United States Postal Service to collect packages from the scene, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and 477th Avenue, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Aurora Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance responded to the above location for a box delivery truck which had rolled,” Sebring said.
Mohamed Hassan, 53, of Shakopee, Minnesota, was driving a 2006 GMC C6500 box truck, which entered the ditch and rolled, Sebring said.
“This event caused the truck, which was hauling a bulk delivery of Amazon packages, to spill into the ditch. Hassan was taken to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance for unknown injuries,” Sebring said.
“The event caused an estimated $28,000 damage to the truck. The United States Postal Service from Sioux Falls and Brookings did respond to the scene and collected all packages from the scene. It is unknown how many of the packages were damaged in this incident,” Sebring said.
