Delores ‘Irene’ Vick, 92, of Brookings, died at her home on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at Rude’s Funeral Home, in Brookings. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 at Lake Campbell Cemetery, in rural Volga.
Irene was born on May 10, 1926, in Brown County the daughter of Victor C. and Martha (Dahme) Bird. Irene received her education in Aberdeen Central High School and graduated from Brookings High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to Stanley L. Vick on January 4, 1945 in Aberdeen, SD. They farmed in Brookings County until 1979. Irene was also employed at Northern States Grain and Insect Lab in Brookings from 1964 until 1971. She also did professional typing for over 30 years, and taught adult education.
She was a member of Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, in Brookings, and Questors, an antique club. Irene was the first volunteer at the Brookings Public Library, and was also a sponsor of the International Foreign Youth Exchange Student program. She especially enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading. She also enjoyed the time she spent socializing and doing projects at the Senior Center.
Irene is survived by her daughter Patty Vick of Brookings; her son Paul (Kristine) Vick of Burke, VA; two grandchildren, Michael (Alison) and Sarah; two great grandchildren, Adeline and Richard; one sister, Pearl Cole, of Arroyo Grande, CA; sister-in-law Arlene Bird of Toronto, and brother, Ed (Sue) Bird, of Bremerton, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Stanley and brother, Bill Bird.
