Delores ‘Doris’ Rose Heinrich was born at Gopher on Oct. 3, 1934. She was the fourth child of Louis and Mabel (Helmer) Heinrich. Her early memories were tending sheep and riding horses at the farm north of Gopher. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 25, 1951. In 1952, Doris graduated from Isabel High School. She attended a semester of college in Aberdeen, then began teaching country school in the Gopher area. Doris met her future husband and love of her life at a ballgame with friends in Firesteel. Doris and Ben married on Oct. 18, 1953. They farmed on Ben Schuh’s home ranch north of Isabel for a short period of time. In 1960, they lived in Bismarck, North Dakota, for half of a year and Mobridge the other half. In 1965, they moved to a farm south of Isabel where they farmed until they retired in 1980. They moved into Isabel and built their retirement home. Doris drew the plans to scale for their new home and their friend Frances Nash built it. Doris worked at Schaffer’s Super Value in Isabel and began selling Avon in the 1980s. Her Avon business was quite successful and she was awarded the President’s Club Award eight times during the 1990s. Doris also studied and became a certified emergency medical technician. Ben was diagnosed with astrocytoma early in their marriage and Doris quickly became a devoted, loving caregiver who was extremely involved with his healthcare needs. Ben died July 25, 1998. Doris continued to live in Isabel selling Avon. In March 2014, Doris moved to Bismarck to be near her daughter, Barb. In March 2016, she moved to United Living Community in Brookings, to be close to her daughter, Linda.

Doris was a hard-working farm wife who worked alongside her husband and raised six ornery children. She hauled as many bales as most men. She loved arts and crafts and was constantly looking for craft materials. Most of the time, she looked for ways to repurpose items however she could. Doris loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren, and also loved little dogs. Throughout the years, Doris had three little dogs that she loved to spoil. Their names were Lacey, Bingo and Peppy. Doris and Ben were active members at Peace Lutheran Church in Isabel.

Doris is survived by her six children, Perry Schuh, of Isabel, Barbara Schuh, of Bismarck, Emil (Deb) Schuh of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, Linda (Al) Minor of Brookings, Tim (Cheryl) Schuh of Wilmot  and Bill (Dianne) Schuh  of Littleton, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Bertha Ross, of Rapid City and Betty Heinrich of Billings, Montana.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ben; three sisters, Madelynn (Ray) Roll, Zelda (Jim) Harrison and Joyce (Zack) Dressler and brother, Oscar ‘Bud’ Heinrich.
