Dennis Theron Converse, 78 of Arlington died Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at his home near Arlington.
Dennis was born Sept. 29, 1940, at Arlington to Clyde and Gladys (Tvedt) Converse. Dennis grew up with his parents on the family farm near Arlington.
His mother passed away Feb. 20, 1947. He attended country school, graduated from Arlington High School in 1958 and attended South Dakota State College. He served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1965.
On June 28, 1969, he married Barbara Lutterman in Brookings and was blessed to have spent 49 years with her. They made their home on the family farm where they raised two children, Kimberly and Craig.
Dennis farmed his entire life, raising livestock and crops. He continued to be active in farming until the time of his death. He also enjoyed selling seed for many years. His family and farm was his pride and joy.
Dennis’ passions were corn, cattle and travel. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington, was a member of Brookings Masonic Lodge and El Riad Shrine.
Dennis was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He dearly loved his grandchildren; Christopher, Nicholas and Julianna Converse. He enjoyed spending time with the whatever the occasion.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Kimberly, son Craig and his three grandchildren. Sister, Delores (Frank) Hanson of Fairfax, MN two brothers, Jim Stime of Warrenton, OR and Dale Rogman of Knightsen, CA and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Edna Converse.
Funeral services for Dennis will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington.
