Dennis Melvin Glawe, 79, of Arlington died of natural causes Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at his home near Badger.

    Dennis was born Dec. 8, 1939, in Brookings to Melvin and Eleanora (Christensen) Glawe. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington. 

Denny attended and graduated from Arlington High School in 1958 and attended South Dakota State College. He served in the Army National Guard from 1958 to 1964. On Oct. 6, 1962, he married Nelann Johnson in Hayti. Dennis served on various boards including Trinity Lutheran Church, Arlington Public School, Kingsbury Fair, and Badger Township.

Denny was a farmer his entire life, raising both hogs and cattle, teaching his children a love of farming and of farm animals through 4-H and FFA. He continued to crop farm up until his death. He enjoyed a great love of everything John Deere, traveling the U.S. in their camper, and seeing the world, as far as Costa Rica to visit his exchange daughter, Yira.

  He is survived by his wife Nelann (Johnson), a brother Lonnie Glawe of Arlington and a sister Nancy (Tim) Van Der Werff of Garretson, three children Regg (Barb) Glawe of Dunlap, IL, Robin (Chris) Nelson of West Des Moines, IA, and Roxy (Craig) Guidry of White Bear Lake, MN; one exchange daughter, Yira Salas of Costa Rica; six grandchildren – Nathan (Abbigale) Glawe of Washington, IL, Alyssa (Auger) Goma of Hong Kong, Rebecca Glawe of Boston, MA, Siri (David) Fliehler of Johnston, IA, Mia Nelson of W. Des Moines, IA , Kara Nelson of Ames, IA and Alexys Guidry of White Bear Lake, MN; 10 great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles, nephew Chad Wargo, sister-in-law Sharon (Nelson) Glawe.

Visitation will be held at Johnson and Henry Funeral Home in Arlington on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arlington on Friday, Dec. 14, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Arlington City Cemetery.
