Dennis I. Johnson, 82, of Brookings, passed away Dec. 17, 2019.
Memorial Services have been set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings.
Memorial Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Dennis Irvan Johnson was born June 21, 1937, in Estelline, the son of Guy Irvan and Mildred Eupha (Ross) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Browns Valley, MN, graduating from Browns Valley High School.
After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after his three years term and returned to Minnesota.
He was united in marriage to JoAnne Schwagel in Brown Valley, MN on Sept. 1, 1958. They made their home in Benson, MN where Dennis started working in automotive body repair.
They moved to Brookings in 1963 where he worked for Don’s Body Shop, Tribble Motors, Paula Motors and the Brookings Auto Mall, retiring in 2000.
In 2002, he went to work for the city of Brookings in the Utilities Department mowing all over the City of Brookings. He retired in 2017 from the City of Brookings.
In 2003, he met Pauline Early and they became best friends and companions until his death.
He is survived by his daughters, Linette (Glade) Evenson of Harrisburg and Natalie (Kelly) Meyer of Brookings; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Michael (Dusty) Holen and their children, McKenzie and Masen; Darrin (Jill) Holen; Christopher (Taya) Meyer and their children, Preston, Quinn, Krew and Nova and Sarah (Cory) Anderson and their son, Maverick; his companion and friend, Pauline Early.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, JoAnne; two sisters, Donna Duffield and JoAnne Metz, infant son, Guy Michael Johnson and son-in-law, David Holen.
