A celebration of life for Deon Simon will be held on Earth Day, Monday, April 22, at the Brookings United Church of Christ, 828 Eighth Street So.
The event will start with a potluck at 6 p.m. with the celebration starting around 7 p.m. Friends are welcome to share food and life stories.
Deon died on March 25 after a battle with cancer. The funeral with family was held in Rapid City on April 1.
Deon lived in Brookings the last 40 years where she worked as a chemist in the Olson Biochemistry and Animal Science Departments at SDSU.
Deon’s passion was quilting. She belonged to the Brookings Area Quilting Guild for many years. Her favorite pastimes were photography, picnics and gardening.
Deon is survived by her husband Mark Behrend of Brookings and a brother Alan Simon and sister Marcelle Simon, both in Rapid City.
