COLMAN – The 21st annual girls’ Michael J. Entringer Basketball Classic tipped off on Saturday in Colman with 18 region teams doing battle.

In the main gym, Deuel opened with a 58-42 win over the host Hawks; Garretson downed Castlewood, 49-38; Deubrook Area pulled away from Madison for a 55-41 win; Hamlin held off Flandreau, 56-53; and then, De Smet beat Dell Rapids, 55-37, in the nightcap.

In the auxiliary gymnasium, Chester Area rallied for a 59-44 win over Lake Preston; Estelline/Hendricks cruised to a 43-11 win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland; Dell Rapids St. Mary beat Elkton-Lake Benton, 58-40; and then, Arlington knocked off Sioux Valley, 47-44.

• Deubrook Area 55, Madison 41

The Dolphins put together a 13-8 run in the third quarter to pull away from a two-point halftime lead to knock off the Class A Lady Bulldogs.

Deubrook Area led 8-7 after a quarter and 24-22 at halftime before outscoring Madison, 31-19, in the second half to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Mattie Nepodal posted a double-double for the Dolphins with a game high 18 points to go along with 13 rebounds as she knocked down 6-of-12 shots from 3-point range. Shaylee DeBeer added 12 points, six boards, four assists, three blocks and a pair of steals, while Ashley Vandermeer pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds as Deubrook Area held a 47-38 edge on the glass.

Kendra Leighton and Morgan Anderson each scored eight points and collected four steals apiece to lead Madison, which dropped to 1-3. Anderson also grabbed nine boards.

The Lady Bulldogs play host to Beresford tonight while Deubrook Area travels to Lake Preston on Thursday.

 Arlington 47, Sioux Valley 44

The Cardinals built a 14-4 lead after a quarter on the way to a 30-16 lead at halftime before the Cossacks rallied in the second half.

Sioux Valley closed to within 36-32 through three quarters and outscored Arlington, 12-11, in the final frame but came up short to drop to 1-2 overall.

Marissa Baker scored all 15 of her points from beyond the arc while Makayla Nelson and Jeryn Christensen notched 10 points apiece as the Cardinals improved to 2-1.

Miakken Vincent posted game-highs of 26 points and eight rebounds for the Cossacks. Ellie Schmidt added 12 points.

Tonight, Arlington travels to Castlewood while the Cossacks play host to Parker.

The Redhawks limited ORR to single points in each quarter on their way to their second win of the season.

Estelline/Hendricks led 19-2 after a quarter and 34-4 at half en route to the 32-point win.

Sophie Johnson finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Redhawks improved to 2-1. Kylie Beare added six points, eight steals and a pair of dimes while Brinn Begalka and Kaylee Johnson contributed six points apiece.

Khloe Tieman’s five points led ORR, which dropped to 0-4, as Avery Hyland pulled down a game-high six rebounds.

On Tuesday, the Raiders play host to Alcester-Hudson in Rutland while the Redhawks take on Iroquois in Hendricks.

The Cardinals outscored the Lady Elks, 30-14, through the middle quarters to post their third win against a single loss.

DRSM was up 16-11 after the first eight minutes; bumped its lead to 30-16 at halftime; and increased its advantage to 46-25 through three.

Maddie Schwebach led the Cardinals with 14 points, four rebounds, four steals and an assist while Ella Heinitz added 12 points to go along with a pair of steals and a dime.

Julia Drietz led ELB with 14 points, four steals and two assists as Brooklyn Nielsen chipped in with nine points, 10 rebounds and two steals as the Lady Elks fell to 0-4.

The Cardinals travel to Chester tonight to face the Flyers while Elkton-Lake Benton plays host to Baltic on Thursday.

After scoring just 12 points in the first half, the Flyers put up 33 in the third quarter to rally to a 45-31 lead through three on the way to their second win of the season.

Jadon Wages scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Makenna Larson contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and six steals as Chester Area improved to 2-3.

Ashlyn DeKnikker led the Divers, 1-2, with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block as Lexie Larsen chipped in with nine points, eight boards, two steals and two dimes.

Tonight, the Flyers play host to Dell Rapids St. Mary while Lake Preston travels to Wolsey to face Wolsey-Wessington.

The Hawks led 17-16 after a quarter before Deuel went up 32-29 at halftime. The Cardinals increased their lead to 43-39 through three and then pulled away with a 15-3 run in the fourth.

Jaydyn TeGantvoort dropped a game-high 26 points for Deuel, to go along with seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Britney Lovre added 19 points, four boards, four takeaways and a pair of dimes as the Cardinals won their first game to go to 1-2.

Braiden Westley’s 17 points led Colman-Egan, 1-2. Mackenzie Hemmer finished with a game-high 10 rebounds as the Hawks held a 29-19 edge in boards.

On Thursday, Colman-Egan plays host to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland while the Cardinals travel to Aberdeen to take on Roncalli.

The Fliers led 10-8 after a quarter, but Hamlin put together a 22-13 run in the second to go up 30-23 at halftime. The Chargers pushed their advantage to 45-35 heading into the final frame and then held off a Flandreau rally to stay unbeaten with a 3-0 mark.

Logan Keszler led three players in double figures for Hamlin with 18 points as she dished out four assists and came up with two steals. Brynn Alfson added 15 points and nine rebounds while Cami Stevenson finished with 11 points and three dimes.

Maria Parsley’s 16 points and eight rebounds led Flandreau, 2-2. Hannah Parsley had 12 points, six boards and four steals as Ashtyn Bertram chipped in with 10 points.

On Tuesday, the Fliers play host to Castlewood while the Chargers take on Tiospa Zina at Agency Village.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first eight minutes; outscored the Quarriers, 31-29, through the middle quarters; and then, closed with a 12-6 run in the fourth to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Kennadi Buchholz dropped 19 points to lead De Smet as Rynn Osthus and Raegan Burke added 16 and 13 points, respectively. Reyna Beck contributed nine rebounds, five assists, five steals and a block.

Aspen Hansen’s 15 points led Dell Rapids, which dropped to 2-1. Jayda Knuppe added nine points and three assists.

On Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs play host to Clark/Willow Lake while Baltic takes on the Quarriers in Dell Rapids.
