Deuel tops Sioux Valley in five sets

CLEAR LAKE – Deuel edged Sioux Valley in five sets during season-opening Lake Central Conference volleyball action Tuesday night.

The Cardinals won by the set scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 14-25 and 15-9.

Jaydyn TeGantvoort paced the home team with 13 kills, eight service aces and 27 digs.

Kendra Damm had nine kills and 27 digs.

Saycia Sime totaled 34 digs, four aces and a pair of blocks. Twyla Rossow had four kills and four blocks, while Haley Winter notched four aces. Sarah Ronne dished out 20 set assists.

The Cossacks’ Miakken Vincent finished with 13 kills, four aces, three blocks and 15 digs.

Rylan Willis had 12 kills, two blocks and 11 set assists.

Alicia VanderWal ended up with eight kills and nine aces. Baylea Lucas had two blocks and 10 digs.

Haydyn Hauge added three aces and eight set assists. Bekah Bahn came up with 11 digs.

Deuel plays at De Smet on Thursday and Sioux Valley competes in the Milbank Tournament on Saturday.

 James Valley Christian 3, Lake Preston 0

LAKE PRESTON – James Valley Christian swept Lake Preston in a season-opening volleyball match Tuesday, winning 25-21, 25-23, 25-21.

Brenna Held had five kills and six blocks, while Julia Blom contributed five kills and four blocks. ReBekah Williams dished out 19 set assists and also came up with 18 digs. Emily Wedel tallied 22 digs.

The Divers’ Lindsay Hillestad totaled 10 kills, two blocks, two service aces and 10 digs.

Annika Nelson had five kills, two blocks and an ace.

Lexie Larsen tallied 17 set assists. Lexis Curry notched 15 digs and Holly Andrew 14.

Lake Preston travels to Iroquois on Thursday and James Valley Christian plays host to Highmore-Harrold on Tuesday.
