BROOKINGS – The newcomer program Beyond Connections is hosting a unique “Welcome to Brookings” event with a Citywide Scavenger Hunt from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 10.
The goal of the event is for new residents and community members to learn more about Brookings and network with others.
Participants will start at Hillcrest Park, where they will receive a list of clues that will guide them to various attraction and retail locations throughout the community. They will take a photo of themselves in front of each clue location, and the first group to complete all of the clues will receive a prize. The scavenger hunt will conclude with lunch at Hillcrest Park.
“We wanted to do a fun, interactive activity that would bring people together while educating them about the community,” said Stacy Aesoph, Brookings Economic Development Corporation director of workforce development. Beyond Connections is a workforce development program of BEDC created to bring people together to welcome new residents, network and build relationships.
Aesoph added that the event is not just for new residents.
“We are encouraging community members to participate in the event not only to help new residents with the clues, but also network with new residents and make them feel welcomed.”
