Divers, Dolphins, Cardinals, Hawks, Fliers open with victories

ELKTON – Lake Preston topped Elkton Lake Benton 49-32 in a season-opening Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball game Friday night.

Ashlyn DeKnikker had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for the Divers. Madison Perkins and Alice Warne each had 10 points. Annika Nelson had six points and Holly Andrews had five.

Hannah Krog led the Lady Elks with 10 points. Rachael Krog had four points and nine rebounds. Aubrey Wirth had two points and four steals. Kailyn Drietz and Julia Dreitz each had five points.

The Lady Elks outrebounded the Divers 33-25. Each team had nine steals. The Lady Elks had 20 turnovers.

Up next, the Divers will host Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday and the Lady Elks will host Castlewood on Monday.

• Deubrook Area 66, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 8

RUTLAND – The Dolphins got the season underway with a big win over the Raiders in DVC action.

Baylee Holmlund scored 17 points. Carley Landmark and Emma Duenwald (3-for-4 treys) added 13 points apiece.

Emma Vandermeer came up with six steals; Andrea Vandermeer dished out six assists; and Emma Sheffield grabbed five boards.

Deubrook takes on Viborg-Hurley in the Sanford Pentagon Classic today at 10:30 a.m. in Sioux Falls. ORR heads to Alcester-Hudson on Tuesday.

 Arlington 70, Florence/Henry 63 2OT

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals won a double overtime thriller in the season opener against the Falcons.

Hadley Carlson led the Cardinals with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Harley Johnson had 19 points and four rebounds. Makayla Nelson had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Trinity Watson was the leader for Florence/Henry with 20 points and nine rebounds. Haley Hlavacek had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor Watson had 18 points.

The Cardinals shot 46.7% from the field for the game and the Falcons shot 38%. Arlington outrebounded Florence Henry 45-44. 

The Cardinals will host Castlewood today and the Falcons will host Milbank on Tuesday.

 Colman-Egan 57, Dell Rapids St. Mary 45

COLMAN – The Hawks were able to come away with a 12-point DVC victory on opening night.

Mackenzie Hemmer had a huge night for CE. She finished with 28 points and nine rebounds. Braiden Westley had 15 points and Josie Mousel had 12 points and six rebounds.

Courtney Brown led DRSM with 16 points and three rebounds. Ella Heinitz had 13 points and three rebounds. Ella Griffin had nine points and three rebounds. 

The Hawks shot 44% from the field and the Cardinals shot 38.6%. CE outrebounded DRSM 31-26.

CE will host Garretson today and the Cardinals will play at Mitchell Christian on Tuesday.

 Flandreau 63, Chester Area 28

FLANDREAU – The Fliers blew out the Flyers on opening night. Maria Parsley led Flandreau with 15 points and Tishara Hardy had 13. Hannah Parsley had 10 rebounds. Makenna Larson had 15 points for Chester and Jada Becker had nine.

The Fliers are at Tea Area and the Flyers will host Howard. Both games are on Tuesday.
