Divers win Region 3B opener

DE SMET – Lake Preston defeated Estelline 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 in the first round of the Region 3B volleyball tournament on Monday night.

The Divers’ Lindsay Hillestad totaled 11 kills. Annika Nelson added four kills, while Rylie Brown and Sasha Andrews tallied three apiece. Olivia Christensen dished out 13 set assists.

Tasha Vohlken, Brinn Begalka and Kylie Beare each had five kills for the Lady Redmen, who finished the season with a 3-22 record. Beare and Begalka both netted three service aces, while Beare also added 13 digs.

In other Region 3B action in De Smet, Castlewood topped Wessington Springs (7-20) by the set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-16 and 25-19. Regan Benike notched 11 kills and 18 digs, while Alayna Benike and Morgan Anderson both posted five aces.

James Valley Christian dropped Iroquois (0-24) 25-14, 25-3, 25-13.

The quarterfinals are tonight.

In White, Deubrook Area (22-7) faces Lake Preston (14-13) at 6 p.m. and Hitchcock-Tulare (14-13) takes on James Valley Christian (14-10) at 7:30 p.m. In Arlington, the host Cardinals (20-9) play Castlewood (9-13) at 6 p.m. and De Smet (16-12) faces Wolsey-Wessington (13-10) at 7:30 p.m.

Region 4B

HOWARD/DELL RAPIDS – The host Tigers beat Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (2-22) 25-11, 25-10, 25-13, while St. Mary edged Mitchell Christian (4-21) 27-25, 25-23, 25-23 in a home match to open the Region 4B volleyball tournament on Monday.

The quarterfinals are tonight in Madison as Chester Area (22-4) faces Dell Rapids St. Mary (11-18) and Ethan (20-4) takes on Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (14-11) at 5 p.m., and Hanson (24-2) faces off with Howard (10-15) and Elkton-Lake Benton (22-8) meets Colman-Egan (16-13) at 6:30 p.m.
