Ray’s Corner of Brookings posted a 4-0 record over the weekend to win the South Dakota Amateur Softball Association Division II State Championship.
Members of the team include (from left): Front row – Shara Thompson, Jessica Markanich, Kea Kellin, Devon Reick, Robin Pickard and Lisa Robinson; Back row – Coach Chris McCullough, Erin Clark, Tina Winter, Jessica Anderson, Kelsey Goens, Jenny Nopens, Breanna Jensen and Coach Jed Jensen. Winter, Markanich, Kellin and Reick were selected to the 2017 Division II All-Tournament team.
Ray’s opened with a 25-1 win over Dauby’s of Sioux Fallls before shutting out Mitchell’s Sun Gold Sports/Anytime Fitness/Larry’s I-90, 11-0 to round out Saturday’s play.
On Sunday, Ray’s downed Cubby’s Bud Light of Brookings, 11-4, to secure a spot in the title game. Cubby’s came back through the loser’s bracket for another shot at Ray’s, but were unsuccessful as Ray’s took the championship game, 12-6, to win the Division II title.
