Dobbs, Ardry reach consolation final in doubles

SIOUX FALLS – Brookings’s Jonah Dobbs and Micah Ardry advanced to the Flight 1 doubles consolation final during the State Boys’ Tennis Tournament on Friday.

The Bobcat duo beat St. Thomas More’s Sam Mortimer and Baxter Meyer 10-2, Pierre’s Jace Wernsmann and Ryan Warne 11-10 (4) and Watertown’s Jared Dale and Drew Veflin 8-4 in consolation play on Day 2.

Dobbs and Ardry face Yankton’s Sam Mooney and Michael Frick for ninth place today.

At Flight 1 singles, Dobbs fell 10-4 to Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Aiden Nguyen in a fifth-place semifinal to finish tied for seventh.

In Flight 2, Ardry beat Rapid City Christian’s David Greni 8-4 in the consolation quarterfinals before falling 10-0 to Brandon Valley’s Carson Mork in the consolation semifinals.

Dawson Peters also won a consolation quarterfinal match in Flight 3, beating Roosevelt’s Mason Weidenbach. He dropped a 10-3 match to Brandon Valley’s Jacob Frantzen in the next round.

Derek Brallier lost 8-2 to Roosevelt’s Michael Grismer in the Flight 4 consolation quarters.

Peters and Brallier fell 10-6 to Pierre’s Matthew Hanson and Grant Judson in the Flight 2 doubles consolation quarterfinals.

Sioux Falls O’Gorman tops the team standings with 544 points and Sioux Falls Lincoln is second at 542. Sioux Falls Washington (374.5), Rapid City Stevens (364) and Brandon Valley (358.5) round out the top five.

Brookings is 16th at 116.

The three-day tourney concludes today.
