VOLGA – Two dogs were killed in a Monday night fire that destroyed a Volga mobile home, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office and the Volga and Bruce fire departments responded to a residential structure fire at 1302 U.S. Highway 14, Volga, at 6:52 p.m. Monday.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said crews found the mobile home filled with smoke.

“No one was home at the time of the fire. After extinguishing the fire, it was discovered two dogs did not make it out of the residence and were found deceased inside,” Sebring said.

“The owners believe the residence is a total loss and estimated the value at $15,000. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time,” Sebring added.

The incident remains under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
