Dolphins (3-0), Cardinals (2-0) pick up hoops victories

WILMOT – Brock Sheffield scored 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds as Deubrook Area improved to 3-0 with a 43-42 win over Wilmot in a nonconference boys’ basketball game Monday.

The Dolphins led 16-7 after a quarter. The Wolves cut the deficit to 23-18 at halftime and 34-33 through three.

Colby Trooien added eight points and Karter Kruit had five. Clayton Koppatschek grabbed eight boards and dished out five assists.

For Wilmot (2-3), Andre Rios dropped in 19 points.

Deubrook Area heads to Deuel tonight.

CASTLEWOOD – The Cardinals held off the Warriors in the fourth quarter to pick up a Dakota Valley Conference victory.

Arlington was up 15-13 after a quarter, 37-23 at halftime and 49-39 through three. The Warriors outscored the Cardinals 14-4 in the final period.

Trevor Larsen dropped in seven 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 25 points in the win.

Devon Heuer added 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Casey Stegeman scored seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Castlewood’s Noah Wiersma recorded a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards.

Castlewood (2-2, 0-3) heads to Flandreau tonight and Arlington (2-0, 2-0) plays host to De Smet on Friday.

Arlington’s Makayla Nelson had six points and Jayna Haufschild and Madysn Gilbertson both chipped in with five.

WOLSEY – Lizzi Brandt had a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards to lead the Lady Warbirds (1-1) over the Divers in a nonconference matchup.

Cortney Sprecher came up with six of Wolsey-Wessington’s 21 steals.

Ashlyn DeKnikker had eight of Lake Preston’s 18 steals. Lexie Larsen corralled 10 rebounds.

Lake Preston (1-3) is host to Deubrook Area on Thursday.
