Dolphins, Lady Elks, Cardinals, Divers pick up wins

DELL RAPIDS – Cortney Bauman led a trio of Dolphins in double-digit scoring as Deubrook Area beat St. Mary, 56-42, in Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball action on Thursday night.

Bauman dropped 20 points, to go along with 11 steals and six rebounds, while Shaylee DeBeer chipped in with 15 points, nine steals, six assists and six boards. Cassie Quail contributed 13 points as the Dolphins improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the DVC.

Deubrook Area led 19-8 after a quarter before the Cardinals rallied to within 26-24 at halftime. The Dolphins regained control with a 17-5 third-quarter surge to take a 43-29 edge heading into the final quarter, where both teams notched 13 points apiece.

Cassandra Geraets finished with 13 points and Ellie Heinitz had 10 for DRSM as the Cardinals dropped to 3-4 and 1-3 in the DVC.

Deubrook Area plays host to De Smet on Saturday in White.

 Elkton-Lake Benton 56, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 11

LAKE BENTON, Minn. – Samantha Schindler scored 16 points and Callie Otkin added 15 as Elkton-Lake Benton beat Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 56-11 in a Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball game Thursday night.

The Lady Elks led 17-6 after a quarter, 30-8 at halftime and 51-11 through three.

Aubrey Wirth added nine points, Marie Robbins seven, Karlie Christensen and Hannah Krog four apiece, and Julia Drietz one.

Krog pulled down nine rebounds.

ELB forced 25 turnovers and committed 10.

The Lady Raiders got five points from A Hyland and four by K Tieman.

ELB (3-2, 3-1) is host to Waverly-South Shore on Tuesday. ORR (0-8, 0-4) takes on Viborg-Hurley in the Dakota State Classic on Saturday, January 13, at 11:30 a.m. in Madosn.

 Lake Preston 55, Hendricks, Minn., 38

HENDRICKS, Minn. – Ashlyn DeKnikker scored 20 of her season-high 30 points in the second half as the Divers overcame a 23-18 halftime deficit to post the nonconference win.

She added nine rebounds, seven assists and five assists.

Meriah Flegel had 11 points.

Lexie Larson totaled eight points and eight boards.

Lindsay Hillestad totaled six points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Olivia Christensen contributed nine boards and four dimes.

Kaylee Johnson had 13 markers and Sophia Johnson 11 for the Grizzlies (8-2), who lost for the first time in six home games this season and had their seven-game win streak snapped.

Lake Preston (3-4) looks to get back to .500 with a home game against Iroquois on Monday.

Note: The teams played two halves as opposed to four quarters.

 Arlington 46, Estelline 22

ARLINGTON – The Cardinals pulled away in the second period en route to more than doubling up the Lady Redmen.

Up by two points after 8 minutes, Arlington outscored Estelline 17-2 in the second to move ahead 28-11. The score was 36-20 heading to the fourth.

Makayla Nelson posted a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Hadley Carlson tallied 10 points off the bench. Marissa Baker added eight points and Jayna Haufschild six to go with 10 boards.

Marissa Golas scored six points for Estelline, which shot 21.1 percent (8-of-38) and had 18 turnovers.

Arlington (3-4, 2-2) travels to Clear Lake to face Deuel and Estelline (1-5, 1-3) plays host to Great Plains Lutheran on Tuesday.

 De Smet 55, Colman-Egan 10

COLMAN – The Lady Bulldogs shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field and held the Hawks to just 7.7 percent (2-of-26) in the DVC game.

De Smet was up 13-4 after a quarter, 32-5 at halftime and 45-8 through three.

Rynn Osthus scored a game-high 14 points, Raegan Burke added 11 and Autumn Wilkinson seven. Kristen Poppen pulled down 13 rebounds to go with six points and four blocked shots.

Haleigh Nicol had six points for the Hawks, who turned the ball over 25 times and went 6-of-14 at the foul line. Madison Voelker came down with six rebounds.

Colman-Egan (2-5, 1-3) is host to Bridgewater-Emery and De Smet (6-1, 4-0) heads to Deubrook Area on Saturday.
