Dolphins, Lady Redmen, Fliers post wins

WHITE – Deubrook Area shut Lake Preston down over the final three quarters to post a 62-26 win during Dakota Valley Conference girls’ basketball action Thursday night.

The Dolphins led 16-12 after a quarter, before moving ahead 35-16 at halftime and pushing the advantage to 52-20 through three.

Shaylee DeBeer totaled 16 points, seven steals, five assists, three rebounds and a block to lead the charge.

Cortney Bauman totaled 13 points, five boards, three assists and three steals.

Cassie Quail finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Sarah Urevig and Ashley Vandermeer both contributed six points, while Tori Berndt and Mattie Nepodal added five apiece. Vandermeer also chipped in with four assists, three rebounds and three steals.

For the Divers, Ashlyn DeKnikker tallied nine points and eight rebounds. Meriah Flegel had seven points, and Lindsay Hillestad and Olivia Christensen each added four. Lexi Larsen totaled two points and nine boards. Christensen dished out three assists.

Both teams compete in the Entringer Classic on Saturday in Colman as Lake Preston (0-2, 0-2) takes on Oldham-Ramona/Rutland at 12:30 p.m. and Deubrook Area (4-0, 2-0) faces Flandreau at 3 p.m.

 Estelline 38, Dell Rapids St. Mary 30

ESTELLINE – The Lady Redmen rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Dell Rapids St. Mary, 38-30, in Dakota Valley Conference action on Thursday night.

Estelline trailed 15-6 after the first eight minutes and 21-10 at the intermission before starting its comeback.

The Lady Redmen outscored the Cardinals 15-3 in the third quarter to take a 25-24 lead, and then, pulled away with a 13-6 fourth quarter to pick up their first win of the season.

Kylie Beare scored 11 points to go along with eight steals, seven rebounds and two assists to lead Estelline, which improved to 1-1 overall and in the DVC. Brinn Begalka just missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards, while Tasha Vohlken chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

Ella Heinitz led DRSM with a game-high 15 points as Sydney Cook pulled down 10 boards for the Cards, who dropped to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

The two teams square off on Saturday in the 20th annual girls’ Michael J. Entringer Scholarship Classic in Colman. Tip off is at 2 p.m.

 Flandreau 63, Beresford 46

FLANDREAU – The Fliers scored 18 points in both the second and third quarters to take control and cruise to the 17-point Big East Conference win over the Watchdogs on Thursday.

Hannah Parsley posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds while dishing out three assists while Kathy Parsley contributed 16 points, six boards, five assists, five steals and four blocked shots as Flandreau improved to 2-1 and 2-0 in the conference.

The Fliers face Deubrook Area at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Colman in the Entringer Classic.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

 Flandreau 60, Beresford 42

FLANDREAU – Dylan LeBrun poured in 35 points and added eight rebounds as the Fliers topped the Watchdogs in a Big East Conference matchup.

Nathan Kneebone contributed 14 points and Andrew Julson notched four to go with eight boards.

Beresford’s Jonah Larson had 13 points and Beau Van Gelder chipped in with 11.

Flandreau (2-1, 2-0) heads to Castlewood on Tuesday. Beresford (0-2, 0-1) travels to Madison on Monday.

 Chester Area 61, Elkton-Lake Benton 39

ELKTON – The Flyers outscored the Elks 21-5 in the third quarter to open up a 55-29 lead in the nonconference win.

Chester led 22-16 after 8 minutes and 34-24 at halftime.

Devin Eppard hit four 3-pointers and went 8-of-8 at the free-throw line while scoring a game-high 26 points. Alex Tammen added 13 and Stratton Eppard nine.

Devin Sopko led a balanced Elk offense with 10 points while adding three steals.

Marcus Harming had nine points, and Dylan Keuhl and Grant DeRuyter both added seven. DeRutyer came up with three steals. Brayden Nielsen grabbed six rebounds.

Chester Area (3-1) heads to Tri-Valley tonight and Elkton-Lake Benton (0-3) travels to Colman-Egan on Tuesday.

Sioux Valley sweeps Baltic

BALTIC – The Cossacks swept the Bulldogs in a Big East Conference basketball doubleheader Thursday night with the girls winning 69-26 and the boys’ cruising to a 93-31 victory.

The Sioux Valley girls (2-0, 2-0) take on Elkton-Lake Benton in the Entringer Classic on Saturday at noon in Colman.

The Sioux Valley boys (2-1, 2-0) play at Parker on Monday.
