Dolphins move to 8-0 with lopsided win over Mustangs

SIOUX FALLS – The Deubrook Area girls’ basketball team moved to 8-0 with a dominant 80-44 defeat of McLaughlin during the Heritage Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon.

The Dolphins assisted on 26 of their 36 field goals while shooting 57.1 percent. They forced 26 turnovers, 14 of which came on steals, and limited the Mustangs to 29.8-percent (17-of-57) shooting.

Mattie Nepodal posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds while adding five assists.

Baylee Holmlund scored 23 points.

Shaylee DeBeer filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks.

Carley Landmark dropped in 10 points off the bench. Ashley Vandermeer contributed eight points and six dimes.

Deubrook led 19-10 after a quarter, 39-15 at halftime and 64-42 through three.

Devon Archambault scored a game-high 24 points for McLaughlin (3-7).

Deubrook Area is the top seed in the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament and faces Elkton-Lake Benton in the first round today at 7:30 p.m. in White.

MITCHELL – Perennial Nebraska power Crofton dropped Flandreau 48-35 in a girls’ basketball game at the Hanson Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Corn Palace.

The Warriors led 12-5 after a quarter and 27-13 at halftime. The score was 36-26 through three.

Crofton’s Lacey Sprakel posted a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Kaley Einrem scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

The Fliers shot 27 percent (10-of-37) from the field, including 1-of-15 from 3-point range.

Hannah Parsley tallied a double-double of 19 points and 11 boards.

Marianna Pavlis added nine markers.

Flandreau (6-3) plays at Deuel on Tuesday.

MADISON – Andes Central/Dakota Christian beat Arlington 51-40, Menno topped Lake Preston 72-55 and Mitchell Christian dropped Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 52-22 in girls’ basketball action at the Mustang Seeds/DSU Shootout on Saturday.

• Andes Central/Dakota Christian 51, Arlington 40

Mackenzie Muckey dropped in 25 points to lead the Thunder (7-2) past the Cardinals.

Isabel Pheifer, who grabbed 10 rebounds, and Tyra Medicine Horn added seven points apiece.

ACDC led 22-17 at halftime. The Thunder shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the field and limited Arlington to 29.3 percent (12-of-41).

Arlington’s Jeryn Christensen had 13 points and three steals. Jayna Haufschild added eight points and Madysn Gilbertson seven.

The Cardinals came up with 14 steals.

Morgan Edelman had a huge game as the Wolves (7-3) dropped the Divers.

The 5-foot-6 sophomore scored 38 points, going 12-of-19 from the field and 14-of-16 at the free-throw line. She completed the double-double with 11 rebounds while dishing out six assists and coming up with five steals.

Tess Oplinger added 15 points and seven boards for Menno, which was ahead 43-25 at halftime.

Lake Preston’s Ashlyn DeKnikker totaled 13 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals.

Lexie Larsen had 17 points and seven boards. Madison Perkins chipped in with 11 markers and Holly Andrews 10.

Staci Wolbrink had 15 points, Anna Cooper 12 and Audrey Cooper 11.

Erica Thompson didn’t score but grabbed 10 rebounds, came up with 10 of her team’s 20 steals and dished out five assists.

ORR’s Khloe Tieman and Breckyn Leighton both finished with five points. Emily Nold had seven boards and four steals.

SIOUX FALLS – Hibbing, Minn., beat Deubrook Area 69-31 in the Heritage Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon.

The Bluejackets, who improved to 9-6, shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) and limited the Dolphins to 22.9 percent (11-of-48).

Hibbing led 21-9 after a quarter, 33-21 at halftime and 51-27 at the end of three.

Luke Lundell led four players in double figures with 16 points. Mayson Brown added 14 points, Tre Holmes 13 and Eli Erickson 10.

The Dolphins’ Clayton Koppatschek scored a game-high 17 points.

Deubrook (4-5) takes on Elkton-Lake Benton in the first round of the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Elkton.

Chester sweeps ELB

ELKTON – Chester Area swept Elkton-Lake Benton in a nonconference basketball doubleheader Saturday, winning the boys’ game 67-54 in double overtime and the girls’ contest  49-26.

BOYS

The Flyers outscored the Elks 13-0 in the second overtime to secure the victory.

Chester led 15-6 after a quarter, 33-18 at halftime and 38-29 through three before ELB rallied to tie the game at 48-48. It was 54-all after the first extra period.

Alex Tammen had 18 points, Stratton Eppard 13, Aden Baumberger 12 and Chris Mohr 10 for the Flyers (4-9).

The Elks’ Marcus Harming totaled 19 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Matt Nibbe posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards.

Grant DeRuyter added 15 points. Devin Sopko dished out four assists.

Elkton-Lake Benton (4-4) plays Deubrook Area in the first round of the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Elkton.

GIRLS

 Chester Area 49, Elkton-Lake Benton 26

The Flyers opened up a 19-4 lead after a quarter, were ahead 32-12 at halftime and had a 43-19 advantage through three.

Jennilee Hoyer scored 11 points to lead a balanced attack for Chester (5-4). Makenna Larson and Jada Becker both added eight points. Jadon Wages pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Lady Elks turned the ball over 36 times.

Julia Drietz, who came up with three steals, and Brooklyn Nielson both had eight points for ELB. Rachael Krog added five markers and Hannah Krog corralled six boards.

Elkton-Lake Benton (1-8) faces Deubrook Area in the DVC Tournament first round tonight at 7:30 in White.
