Donald J. “Dick” Bartelt, 81, of Sherwood, Arkansas, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at his home under hospice care. 

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Elkton with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Don was born on Dec. 5, 1936, near Lake Benton, Minnesota, to O.W. “Dick” and Marvel (Munsch) Bartelt. He attended school in Elkton and graduated in 1954. Don graduated from SDSU in Brookings in 1958 where he was enrolled in ROTC. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force where he served for 20 years, retiring from the Air Force as a captain. Don moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas, and worked for the State of Arkansas until his retirement. Dick loved his state of Arkansas and his “Razorbacks.” 

Dick is survived by one daughter Shannon (Sergio) Bartelt-Garcia, Little Rock; three grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a sister JoAnn (Chuck) Heesch of Elkton; two aunts, Eunice Kinsman and Lucille Muchlinski; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. 

Dick was preceded in death by his infant son Kevin, sister Carol and her husband Gordon Wince and brother Gene Bartelt.
