BROOKINGS – The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce and its Downtown Brookings Business District Committee announced this week that they are canceling the 2020 season of the Downtown at Sundown series.
“This event offers live music, good food and drink, and is a great way to bring the community together. Unfortunately, we all know that isn’t a smart decision given these current circumstances,” said Kelsey Doom, president and CEO of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce. “I have no doubt our downtown director, Ashley Biggar, will come back in 2021 with more ideas and momentum than ever – our next Downtown at Sundown series will be one for the books.”
Downtown at Sundown is a seven-week, outdoor summer music festival that was first launched in 2014 aimed to create an all-ages event and central gathering place for community members and visitors alike. Previously organized by the Convention and Visitors Bureau (now known as Visit Brookings), the event was passed to the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce in 2019. With planned strategic changes, the Chamber looked forward to creating an even better and larger event in 2020.
“We will be keeping an eye on the situation and will seize the opportunity should it arise to host a pop-up event,” said Ashley Biggar, director of Downtown Brookings with the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce. “Thank you to everyone for your understanding, support and patience as we work through this difficult time. We are counting down the days until we are reunited again at [email protected]!”
Festival goers are encouraged to visit downtownatsundown.com or their Facebook page for 2021 updates.
