Doyle W. Hicks, 73, of Brookings, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, in Brookings. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, at GracePoint Wesleyan Church, in Brookings. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Rude’s Funeral Home.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Brookings Empowerment Project (PO Box 832, Brookings,  57006) or Fairview Cemetery, in White.

Doyle Wayne Hicks was born on Aug. 22, 1946, the son of Delbert ‘Dub’ and Eulalia (Benz) Hicks in Hendricks, MN. He grew up in rural White and graduated from White High School in 1964. Throughout his life, he was proud to be a White Wildcat. Doyle moved to Brookings where he spent his entire adult life living and working. He owned and operated Hicks Enterprises since 1972 and was actively involved in the South Dakota Music and Vending Association. Doyle was united in marriage to Darla Patrick on Oct. 17, 1981, in White.

 Doyle was very active and always doing something. He could often be found golfing, shooting pool, collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia and coins, listening to country music, watching the Minnesota Vikings and following the SDSU Jackrabbits. He was a member of the Elks in Brookings for many years. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doyle loved his children equally. He was a very generous man, often helping those in need or in a tight spot. Doyle was always quick to strike up a conversation with his many friends or even a complete stranger on the street.

 Doyle is survived by his wife, Darla Hicks; daughter, Tina Hicks; daughter-in-law, Kelly Hicks; grandchildren, Ashley Hicks, Megen (Kasey) Menzel, Ryker Hicks and Ethan Hicks; great grandchildren, Liya Steele and Tade, Jax, Jason and Taz Menzel; sisters, Phyllis Hemmer and Loretta (Don) Jackson; brother, David (Verna) Hicks; sister-in-law, Bernita Hicks; brother-in-law, Sidney Peters, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Troy; siblings, Orlin (in infancy), Verona Miller, Lucille Peters, Russell Hicks, Wayne Hicks (in childhood) and his brother-in-law, Gene Hemmer.
