BROOKINGS – Both occupants had to be extricated from a car and one was airlifted to Sioux Falls following a one-vehicle rollover 4 miles northwest of Brookings Sunday morning.

Driver Alectra Roberts, 18, of Brookings, suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash on 210th Street, between 468th and 469th avenues, according to South Dakota Department of Public Safety spokesman Tony Mangan.

Roberts was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire west on the gravel road at 9:14 a.m. Sunday when she lost control of the vehicle. It entered the ditch and rolled, Mangan said.

Neither Roberts nor her passenger, 18-year-old Gabriel Lamster of Volga, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the rollover, Mangan reported.

Roberts was transported to the Brookings Hospital and then airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Lamster suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Mangan said charges are pending against Roberts.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Fire Department, Brookings EMS and Bozied’s Towing assisted.
